Smith Select Properties (“SSP”) was founded in 2003 with the primary objective of developing and acquiring prestigious properties located on prime sites with strong long-term tenants. More than 95% of SSP’s income is derived from tenants that are listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. SSP’s buildings are superior to most of its tenants’ competitors, both in design and location. The company takes great pride in its well-maintained buildings. All SSP’s properties are located in KwaZulu-Natal.
ABOUT THE DIRECTORS
Tom Smith: Founder, Owner and Director
Tom began his working career at Unilever SA after graduating in economics from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. He later joined the family business, which in time became known as Boxer Superstores (“Boxer”). He was a founder shareholder and managing director, holding this position until the company was sold to Pick ‘n Pay in 2002. After the Pick ‘n Pay sale, Tom applied the property experience acquired at Boxer to build his own property portfolio. His current focus is strategic planning and networking.
William Smith: Managing Director
William completed articles with Deloitte’s after graduating from Stellenbosch University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 2004. After qualifying, he worked in the Deloitte San Francisco office for 6 months, returning thereafter to the Durban office as an audit manager and subsequently a senior audit manager. William joined JT Ross as the head office financial manager. At JT Ross, William gained experience in construction, development and the property industry. William joined SSP at the beginning of 2010 as managing director.
